Camp Constantin has been Troop 890’s summer camp home for likely over 50 years. Patch collecting and trading — perhaps somewhat of a dying hobby — has always been part of Scouting, and we are doing our part to keep it going!! Immediately below are images of our Troop’s summer camp patches given to each Scout and adult on the final Saturday before we leave. (These can be collected, traded, displayed, etc.) Then, far below are images of the Camp Leader patches given to adults who come and support our Scouts. If you have any of these patches in years NOT displayed below, please email a photo of same to Todd Allen at mtoddallen@sbcglobal.net.
The 2022 standard oval patch. Note that canoe paddle has been swapped out for a Fat Bat, and the Fat Bat and volleyball are in gold…see below.
The Seniors led the charge to win gold in Fat Bat and Nuke ‘Em and all team members will get this special edition for winning gold!!
The Staff recognition patch this year had both flamingos as 890G did not attend camp with us this year.
This was the 2021 standard oval patch with a white border representing our 60th year as a Troop.
Our Staff recognition patch was for both 890B and 890G so we had both the narwhal and flamingo. When we designed the patches, we were still in semi-full COVID mode so masks were still required!! The non-staff patch was given to each Scout and adult in 890.
This was the standard 890G oval.
We needed something extra special for our 60th, so why not a white ghosted flamingo oval????
For 2020, we had to cancel our trip to Camp Constantin due to COVID. However, we still had a summer camp virtually and had activities and merit badges during the same camp week. Notice that we took Constantin and the “C” off and had a “floating” campfire reflecting the virtual aspect of camp.
Starting in 2019, we designed a patch for our linked 890 Troops. The Scouts deemed it to be the “Nargo” patch because it included the narwhal (mascot for 890G) and the flamingo (mascot for 890B). For 2020, we again ghosted the patch, put the word “NARGO” on the patch, and made sure the mascots were properly masked up!!
Here is the digital image of lthe 2019 patch. Note that most years we tweak a few things with either silver or gold thread — this year the Constantin “C”, the BSA fleur-de-lis, and the volleyball.
The actual 2019 flamingo oval…
And here is the patch that henceforth will be known as the “NARGO” patch.
We also had a 5K Fun Run and patch for 2019!! This was for Brian Ferrell’s Woodbadge ticket.

The flamingo ovals started in 2007 by then-Scoutmaster Brett Chumbley. Scroll down to the last patch in this folder, and you can see that the Camp started making Council Shoulder Patches (CSPs) in 2006 for Camp Leaders and Staff, and the design of our patch the following year also uses the Hell’s Gate backdrop but with our flamingos.
